Safeguarding
At St John Fisher Catholic High School, we pride ourselves on having an incredibly strong culture of safeguarding which permeates throughout the whole school community. Safeguarding at St John Fisher Catholic High School is paramount to the pastoral care and runs right through the core of the Catholic Ethos that is provided by a dedicated, passionate, and empathetic team. All staff, governors, and volunteers, ensure that children are visible, their voices heard and their needs, views and wishes addressed. We recognise that some children are more vulnerable than others due to age, home life or specific needs but we ensure to always act in the best interest of the child. Within Wigan Local Authority we are regularly highlighted as a beacon of excellent practice due to the commitment of the pastoral team, to go the extra mile for our pupils and their families. Significant investment has taken place to ensure we have a pastoral team that is highly effective in meeting the complex safeguarding challenges presented by our pupils. As a school, we have extraordinarily strong relationships with external agencies further supporting our overall offer within the community we serve.

Keeping Children Safe in Education
Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) training is completed with all staff annually as part of the new academic year INSET day programme. School staff receive a comprehensive overview of the document, delivered by Miss Melling (DSL) in addition to physical copies of the current KCSIE for the compulsory reading of Part 1 and Appendix A. Additional Child Protection and Safeguarding training is conducted at regular intervals throughout the school year to establish the strong culture of safeguarding that we have at St John Fisher Catholic High School.
